About us

The Free Scotland Party was launched in Shetland on New Years Day 2004 as the The Scottish Party.

The Scottish Party name was not sanctioned by the Electoral Commission. Free Scotland Party was chosen by the membership from a long list of potential names. The Free Scotland Party is registered with the Electoral Commission (http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/).

In 2007, Free Scotland stood in the Perth constituency and fielded a list in the Mid Scotland and Fife region.

Free Scotland put up candidates in three constituencies in the General Election on May the 5th, 2005.

Currently, Free Scotland is concentrating on building up membership and party funds with a view to standing in the EU elections 2009.

Free Scotland has members across Scotland, our long term plan is to become an active national party promoting our aims.

Free Scotland wants out of the UK and out of the EU. We want decisions about Scotland made in Scotland.

Our overall aim and policy stances are –
"A government in Scotland elected by and answerable ONLY to voters in Scotland"

Independence
Leave the European Union (EU)
Support any referendum or measures to leave the EU or otherwise diminish the powers of the EU over Scottish life
